How to Start the Bad Blood Quest

The quest becomes available when you return to the herbalist Bozhena and ask what happened to her. This can occur at any moment or during the side quest Mutt, in which you set out to find your dog.

After speaking with the old woman, you will learn that her daughter has disappeared and hasn't returned home for several days. We recommend completing all optional conditions to quickly find the girl.

Search Pavlena's Room

Go up to the second floor and look around. On the floor, examine the scattered items, unfinished work, unmade bed, and pick up the men's hat on the stool next to the stairs.

Inquire About Pavlena in Troskovice

There are many people in the city, so you'll get tired of asking every passerby about Pavlena. Instead, head straight to the tavern and talk to the owner, whom you've met before.

First, you'll need to apologize to Beta to increase your reputation. Then you can accept the side quest "Invaders" or decline it. Beta will kindly share information about the missing girl, and the quest will update.

Tip: If you accepted the additional quest "Invaders," we recommend starting it immediately. Otherwise, the Cumans will start causing trouble, and you'll have to deal with the consequences.

Ask the Reeve About Pavlena

Immediately after the dialogue ends, three optional activities will appear in the task journal, and people you can talk to will be marked on the map. We recommend not wasting time and heading straight to the reeve, who wanders around the building with the scribe.

Reeve Drozd will tell you that the local woodcutter Roman often sees her and might know something about where the girl disappeared.

Ask the Woodcutters About Pavlena

In the eastern part of the map, an area will appear that you need to investigate. These are the woodcutters' huts, and Roman lives in one of them. When you approach his house, you'll hear another man calling him by name. Talk to the woodcutter and inquire about what happened. He will ask you to inspect a friend's hut, but the door to the house is locked. Be sure to ask for payment for your work to receive 25 groschen.

Search Roman's House

You can pick the simple lock on the door using a lockpick, thus slightly increasing your skill. But if you don't have the tool and don't want to waste time, use another method. Go around the building from the side and find a ladder leading to the attic. This way, you can get inside.

Examine the table and Pavlena's baskets, then go to the drying room and tell the woodcutter Dushko about everything. He will thank you for fulfilling the request and give you a hint about where the lovers might be. A new marker will appear on the map.

Find the Clearing Dushko Mentioned

Go through the field south of the city and examine a small pond in the forest. Here on the ground lies a bloodied stone and tracks leading deeper into the thicket. Follow these tracks to discover a partially buried corpse of a guy.

Ask the Swineherd About the Corpse

Return to the field north of where you found the corpse. A swineherd roams here. When you tell him about the dead Roman, he will immediately tell you about who he saw in the forest some time ago. One of the men was a peasant named Slavobor, nicknamed Soloma, who lives and works nearby.

Follow the marker and find the guy behind the hut. Immediately tell him that you know about the corpse. Then you'll have to either pass a skill check to convince Soloma to surrender to the guards or defeat him in close combat. Either way, you can decide the fate of the farmhand in three ways:

  • You deserve to die — kill Soloma. This may negatively affect negotiations with his accomplice;
  • I'll let you go — you let the peasant go. This may positively affect negotiations with the accomplice;
  • I'll take you to the reeve — you will lose some reputation points but can choose one of the response options for the guards (kill, shackle, spare).

Find the Gorge Where Oldra Holds Pavlena

Regardless of your choice, a marker will appear slightly south of Troskovice, where the second murderer hides the herbalist's daughter. Head to this area and find a ladder on the western side of the cliffs.

Before the small ladder, there will be a guard dog that may attack you. If you quickly dash and climb the ladder, you can spare its life. This will positively affect negotiations with Oldra.

Save Pavlena

Tip: before starting negotiations, we recommend saving your progress. You can use a Saviour Schnapps or select "Save and Exit" from the menu.

Time and again, we tried to pass this segment, but we couldn't understand what determines Pavlena's fate: whether Oldra will spare her or decide to kill her. The first time, we chose aggressive options in the skill checks (Intimidation), but none of the checks were successful. We honestly told about Soloma, imprisoned in the dungeon, and about the dog that died on our way. In the end, we promised to let Oldra go, and he surrendered.

In other attempts, we avoided aggression and responded more restrainedly. However, in the end, Oldra refused to surrender and killed Pavlena.

If you managed to free the girl, Oldra will drop his sword and approach you, and Pavlena will kill him from behind. In the dialogue with her, choose understanding options to increase your reputation. Condemning Pavlena will lead to a decrease in this indicator.

Kill the Peasant Yakesh

When you return to Bozhena, she will insist that the main character eliminate Pavlena's offender — a peasant named Yakesh. This quest will only be available if you agree to help the herbalist deal with this man. However, you can refuse and complete the "Bad Blood" quest immediately after Pavlena returns to her mother.

Return to the estate where you previously interrogated Soloma. Yakesh will be in the main house: during the day — on the first floor, at night — on the second floor. If you want to get rid of him without witnesses, we advise waiting for the night and sneaking unnoticed to the second floor. Keep in mind that a guard patrols the estate. If he notices you, you'll have to act quickly.

Climb to the second floor and open the door. It is usually unlocked, but be prepared to use a lockpick. Sneak up on Yakesh and strangle him to stun. Then you can take out any weapon and finish the job.

Tip: Be sure to save beforehand. If the locals see you, they will immediately report to the guards, and the hero will be wanted for murder!

Tell Bozhena What Happened to Yakesh

When you return to the herbalist, tell her about the completed task. She will offer you a reward, which you can either accept or refuse. We chose the latter, hoping that Bozhena would forgive the debt of 150 groschen. However, this did not happen, so feel free to accept the reward. In any case, you will receive a significant amount of reputation points for completing the task.

Should you help Bozhena with Yakesh?

After you find and rescue the herbalist's daughter, you will face a choice: agree to help Bozhena kill Yakesh, refuse, or try to reconcile the sides. The third option becomes available if you accept the task of killing Yakesh but instead of carrying it out, try talking to him.

Here are some known outcomes:

  1. If you agree to kill Yakesh, Bozhena and Pavlena will be safe, as no one will want to harm them anymore.
  2. If you refuse to kill Yakesh and leave everything as it is, the protagonist will put the women in danger: upon visiting the herbalist's house again, you will find her hanged inside the hut, and nearby on a tree, her daughter will also be hanging.
  3. If you talk to Yakesh and complete his tasks, you can reconcile the sides. In this case, no one will be killed.
