This city-building strategy with economic simulation elements is set on a tropical island during the Cold War, where the player takes the role of a dictator trying to remain in power. The island can be developed into a tourist destination or an industrial center, while political choices—from making promises to voters to undermining rivals—affect elections. The Cold War superpowers can also be played against one another for political advantage.
Tropico 3 features a 15-mission campaign and a random map generator. It simulates the lives, families, and political views of the island’s inhabitants. Players can customize and control an avatar, give election speeches, and visit another player’s island; roads, vehicles, buildings, and units are also available to the ruler.
