Joust is an arcade action platformer built around aerial combat in caverns. The player rides an ostrich and attacks enemy riders with a lance, defeating them by striking from above. Fallen enemies leave eggs that must be collected before they hatch into stronger foes.
In solo play, the rider faces enemies mounted on swift birds; a second player can join on a stork. Pterodactyls also prowl the caverns, while rising lava and a troll threaten riders who linger or lose altitude.
