Elite (1988) — The game provides eight galaxies to explore, with 256 planetary systems in each. The player, initially under the name Commander Jameson, begins the game on the orbital station of the planet Lave, with 100 credits and a lightly armed Cobra Mk.3 ship. Most of the ships featured in the game take their names from snakes and other reptiles. You can earn money (credits) in various ways: through trade, piracy, military missions, asteroid mining, and also as a hired killer. The player can use the money received to improve the ship — purchasing better weapons, protection, increasing cargo space, and so on.
