Dynasty Warriors 4 — The goal of most stages is to defeat the enemy commander. The player must navigate through the stage, defeating enemy officers and soldiers while trying to keep their commander alive. Some stages have secondary objectives that the player will be able to complete to make the stage easier, unlock new features, or help in later stages. Each playable character has their own unique weapon and individual superhuman abilities.
The scale of each stage allows each side to have thousands of soldiers on the battlefield. The game uses a fairly simple combo system so that players can chain attacks together; the maximum possible attack combo is 10. New character designs and attack moves have also been updated, leaving more damage and making it easier to level up your characters' skills.
