Dungeons & Dragons: Heroes — 150 years before the present, the wizard Kaedin opened four portals leading to different planes of existence. He used the power of the four planes to create "Planar Gems", each of which had the same power as the planes they came from. He then created a fifth Gem to control the four Gems of Planar and assigned the beholder to protect it. Beholders live a long time, but this one still protects him. Kaedin became more powerful and evil thanks to the four gems of Planar and conquered city after city.
