Capcom Changes Plans for Resident Evil 9 Release, Insider Claims

An insider known as LutusFix claims that Resident Evil 9 will not be released this year, contrary to previous assumptions. According to him, the release has been postponed to 2026 to give developers more time to polish the project. He received this information from an internal source at Capcom USA Marketing, who chose to remain anonymous.

Here's what the insider previously said about Resident Evil 9:

  • Capcom is not satisfied with the marketing results of Village and is revising the strategy for RE9 before the official announcement;
  • The game is at an advanced stage of development, but some gameplay elements and items, like the smoke grenade, still require refinement. The RE Engine has reached its limit with RE9, and it will likely be one of the last games on this engine. The REX Engine will be unveiled to the public soon;
  • The marketing for RE9 will be "stratospheric," according to the contact;
  • Promo materials will feature Leon, described as "Mature Leon, but not too different from the RE4 Remake." Jill will also be in the game;
  • Blue Umbrella plays a central role in the game;
  • The game is called "the biggest survival horror in the franchise," and the title "Apocalypse" should remain unchanged;
  • The hospital will not be the only setting in the game;
  • The game will feature smoke and sound grenades that can be used to avoid fights with aggressive creatures;
  • Capcom is expected to reveal details by May.

As a reminder, another insider stated in January that Jill Valentine "does not play any significant role" in Resident Evil 9. Capcom has yet to comment on the rumors.
